nagfa's ambigram challenge (NAC) July 2007

Salam and hi to all! How are you all? Hope everyone is feeling fine in spite of the quirky weather.
.
As promised, the mid-month instalment of July'07 NAC. As we - Naguib and Fadilah - would be sucked into a black hole of busy-ness in these coming few weeks (our wedding, the planning and renovations of our new home, and convocation coming up..), we have decided to post a slightly different format for this month's NAC...
.
Instead of the usual theme or word/phrase, we feel that a little creativity - and freedom - would be fun for all participants and visitors alike. So, we propose to introduce an experimental exercise in ambigram designing - 'surrealistic word couplings' or 'absurd ambigrams' (see example below). There are a few steps to take note of:

example: butterfly-hunting

.
1) Find a random word.

(Could be the first word you see in the morning headlines, a random dictionary search or even the first word you hear from a person on the streets. The word 'butterfly' was inspired by Fa.)
2) Write the word down.
3) Rotate the word around.
4) Try to 'see' possible words that may 'appear' or 'present itself'.
5) Construct the 'ambigrammatic formulae' (first draft).
6) Design the final draft.
.
...and, hey presto, you either get a 'surrealistic word coupling' or an 'absurd ambigram'!
.
Please submit designs to:
hopefully before 24nd of August (for allowance for us to compile them before September). Please also include the chosen word for the design, your name (pseudonym allowed), country of origin, and website/blog (if any).
*Designers are allowed to send in more than one design/entry..
.

Almost a natural ambigram..

An old mini-NAC with Jojie, the young ambigrammist, also Nag's cousin. The word was 'sebelas' - Malay for 'eleven' - and these are the two solutions (*note the incorporation of the numerical '11'):

Inspiration came from the sign board of one the new-age hybrid hair saloon-manicure/pedicure shops. The little icons on the right - we hope - represent hair and nails respectively.

Notice to all:
.
We are currently buried under tonnes and tonnes of obligations and commitments. NAC for July will only be posted in mid-July. The closing date, thus, will be adjusted accordingly and fairly. We regret the inconveniences caused, both to loyal participants and to the new ones. We appreciate your support all these while.. Meanwhile do visit the links under Ambigram Mates, say hi, give comments, tie the friendship knot..
.
(We now understand and appreciate teachers and educators more..)

NAC June 2007 Theme

Hi and salam to all! This has been a hectic month, and we predict the upcoming month or so too (nagfa is in transition, what with the new job: teachers, planning for our new home and our wedding coming up). But fret not, we will still bring you the very best of NAC!
.
For NAC June, we had our esteemed guest challenger from Colombia, Senor Alberto Portacio (a teacher himself!) proposing the theme of 'famous couples'. We received many enties, and more than a few new participants as well. To them, welcome to the NAC family!
.
The first piece - done by Martijn - is a tribute the the Guest Challenger. The entries covered all layers of interpretations for 'famous couples', from cartoon characters, to history figures, to literary schizophrenic to even artist and his muse, and artist and his killer! ... And one of the most extraordinary solution for an ampersand yet!
.
We hope that this month's solutions could be shared and admired, learnt and appreciated. We know we do! Without further ramblings, enjoy.. And do leave comments and/or critiques..
.
