nagfa's ambigram challenge (NAC) November 2007

(Funny how a 'nov-' month could be the eleventh month instead of the ninth. Blame it on the Caesars. *Julius and Augustus were 'inducted' into the Roman calendar, thus pushing September, October, November and December into an abyss of etymological conundrum..)

After the hectic months of August and September, we would like to settle again on the equilbrium-status quo-comfort zone of a 'proper' monthly NAC.

This month's phrase: living the dream (OR slaving for my dreams)

In these paradoxical Orwellian days, as the rich becomes richer and the poor becomes poorer, with the income gap greater than the Grand Canyon itself, we see ambigram at play: where two extremes of a spectrum exist concurrently. For these are the Ambigram Days..

NAC September 2007: Hybridity

After a long wait, we have finally compiled the September edition for NAC (nagfa's ambigram challenge). Again, we've seen new participants (a warm welcome from all of us at the NAC family!). The given challenge was the word - 'hybridity' - and through the entries, we've seen various interpretations, most participants went for the straightforward with emphasis on exuding individual styles; some went for brave, and surprisingly successful solutions; there were experiments with fonts and depictions of hybridity.

All in all, this NAC is in itself a 'hybrid'; proof that different artists with different styles from different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds, have made it a considerable success. Applause to all! Respect and salute, and a handshake to all..

...and a belated Selamat Hari Raya / Eid Mubarak for our Muslim friends!

It had been a rather busy period for Naguib and Fadilah; what with our first Aidifitri as husband and wife, visiting our relatives and friends, and of course as teachers in the sandstorm of the end-of-year examinations and administrations..

As we prepare to bring to you the much-awaited compilation of NAC September's entries, we leave you with some points to ponder:

1) The whole world is speaking about the hyped-term 'global warming', human's follies and their consequences to our very existence. Consider that every time we pump petrol into our cars, we are actually pumping in what used to be the great dinosaurs which once ruled this planet.

2) The 'world's most popular game', the Rubik's Cube, could be upped one level: taking into consideration the famous 3x3 (x6 faces) grids, how about incorporating the mathematical Japanese game - Sudoku - into a standard Rubik's Cube and see what happens?

3) "The lazy perfectionist / has suicidal tendencies."
