kufic: john langdon
.
Our favourite kufic project to date. A nod to the cherished John Langdon. We love how this turns out. Love the rigid flow of the central swastika-like arms too!

Kufic Tutorial Link

As we are still on the subject of Kufic Calligraphy, we feel it is only appropriate to highlight one of the most popular websites to offer tutorials on the different forms of the art: SAKKAL DESIGN
.
Update: Another interesting blogpost, this time on A Workshop on Kufic Calligraphy for Non-Arabs, in Amsterdam, Holland: Pascal Zoghbi's website

Romanized Kufic: naguib.fadilah
.
Another experimentation on Kufic designs (Romanized). Pardon the disgression. For this piece, the central hole? gap? void? space? was filled with a basic design found in traditional Kufic pieces.

romanized kufic: nagfa.blogspot.com-naguib.fadilah1
romanized kufic: nagfa.blogspot.com-naguib.fadilah2
.
Getting hooked now on kufic design; it's like jigsaw puzzle meets tetris. The real challenge is to get the configuration just right for a square outline. For this design, the internal square reads 'nagfa.blogspot.com' while the outside half-border (still maintaining the perfect square) reads 'naguib.fadilah'. Note that the 'F' also reads as an 'n' in a different orientation. ...maybe, we won't start searching for those scanner cable too soon now...
